The first Utah Dahlia Society's meeting of the year was held on February 20, 2013.
We had a good turnout and it felt great to see everyone after a long break.
First on the agenda was a report of how our tubers were doing and many reported that they were doing fine tucked away for our very cold winter.
Steve LeCheminant gave us our soil report that he had done for our demonstration garden. It was not bad and just recommended we add some nitrogen in the spring.
The bulk of our meeting was spent discussing details of the National Dahlia Society's Board Meeting that is being held in Salt Lake City in April.
We feel honored that they chose our city and look forward to meeting them. We want to do our best to make sure they feel welcome and have everything they need while they are here.
Thanks to Mark for bringing us all his baby houseplants, to Bill Hughes for the great photos and as always to Megan for keeping us organized and fed;-)
Great job on the blog Karen. It looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHow do we get in contact to become members and to find out about your sale? We would love to start a dahlia garden at the Ogden Botanical Gardens and wondered if you had pointers and great tubers for sale.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your interest. We would love to see dahlias at the garden. Our tuber sale is April 20th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Sugarhouse Garden Center in Salt Lake, 1620 East 2100 South. If that is not convenient for you please call me at 801-269-8028 and we can make other arrangements for you. We do have a book written by our President Mark Hurst with everything you need to know to grow dahlias including storing the tubers for the next season. We also welcome any questions at the number above. The tubers are only $3.00 each for our fund raiser.
