2017 Awards Dinner

Our Awards Dinner was held on Saturday, November 4th.

We had our favorite Joe Morley BBQ and enjoyed seeing everyone before our winter break.
Head Table Winners
We missed Ryan and Julie Williams,
 our Best of Show winners
but congratulate them on their win and their new greenhouse they are building for Stonehouse Dahlias.

A group photo of everyone that attended.

Demonstration Garden
Megan started digging our demonstration garden tubers on October 23 then Stephan, Karen, Megan and Sandy finished the job on October 26.    The tubers were stored in 1 gallon bags with a couple of holes, vermiculite and about a tablespoon of sulphur then packed in cardboard boxes.  Megan took them to Logan to be stored in Ryan and Julie's cold storage at their new house.   Many thanks to them for storing our tubers and to Stephan for taking care of the water at the garden all summer. Also, thanks to everyone that came to help weed, disbud and anything else that needed to be done.
Many of us have complained about having an off year this year for our dahlias.  As I look back at this blog we have had a few years that have had less than stellar results.  Could it be we are trying to grow these beautiful flowers in the desert?  What ever the reason the blooms we do get give us joy and are worth the trouble.
Another side note is a nod to our President, Mark Hurst.  He had some health issues this year and his presence at the garden was missed.  We hope to see you more next year Mark.

Happy Garden planning for next year's blooms and a blatant  plug for our own Megan, Ryan & Julie's cutting business,
Stonehouse Dahlias.
