Demo Garden and other Stuff

The Utah Dahlia Society's Demonstration Garden
has some fantastic blooms this year.
It is always fun to see what is blooming each Saturday morning when we meet to work on the garden.

Blondee is a beauty this year!

There are many that should bloom by next week bringing more color and smiles.

My own garden gives me a chance to share those smiles with a friend.
This year I tried several new varieties but so far Honeymoon (the orange one) is my favorite along with my usual favorites: Lovely Lana, Snoho Sonja, Alfred Grille and Embrace.

Congratulations to Mark for another seedling bloom!

Does this lid belong to you?
It was left behind at Jan's house from our last pot luck.
Let us know so she can get it back to you.

Speaking of our potluck, many of us wanted the recipe for Kathy Young's brownies:
Beat together:
2 squares melted butter
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup chopped pecans
Spread in a greased and floured 9 X 13 baking pan, 350 for 20 minutes ( I baked mine for 25).
Frosting:
cream together:
3 oz. cream cheese and 1/2 square butter
add:
2 Tablespoons of buttermilk or more as needed
1/3 cup cocoa
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extra
3 cups of powdered sugar.

Mark's Seedling

Kathy Young took these photos
of Mark and his Seedling
at the Salt Lake County Fair.
Congratulations Mark and thanks to Kathy.
It looks like a winner to me.

Utah Dahlia Society Summer Party

The Utah Dahlia Society's summer get-together  was held on July 16, 2015.  We had a wonderful time at Jan and Allen Litster's lovely home.  What a fantastic array of plants and flowers.  Their dahlias are thriving and we were able to see some of the early bloomers.  Thanks to all who were able to come and bring such scrumptious dishes.  Most of all a huge thank you to Jan and Allen for hosting... What a fun night!

Aside from our Saturday work days at the demonstration garden, our next event is the high-light of the year.  Our annual Dahlia Show will be held on September 26th and 27th.  Congratulations to our new show chairman, Sandy Burgess.

Our generous hosts Jan and Allen
Flowers, food and wonderful friends made for a fabulous evening.

Our Dahlia Society Girls are always the highlight of our get-togethers.

Thank you Megan for the text and most of the

photos.

We hope to see everyone at the show.

Look for details in September.
